Home Learning Task Week 6

Kiwi Team Home Learning - Weeks 5 - 6, Term 2

Your time to rhyme!

There aren’t many authors who have new books published when they are more than a hundred years old - but they’re not Dr Seuss. We are setting you a poetry challenge. Here it is, conveniently set to rhyme:

It’s too cold to bask,
It’s too wet to play,
so we have set you a task
on this cold, cold grey day.
Please write us a rhyme,
it doesn’t have to be long,
or take much of your time.
You can’t get it wrong!

It’s as simple as that! Just remember, Dr Seuss is famous for revolutionising children’s literature by using a limited selection of easy words. The Cat in the Hat only uses 220 different words throughout the whole book - and none of them are more than five letters long except for the word “SHOULD”.

If you’re lost for ideas, how about starting from the title of the new Dr Seuss book - What Pet Should I Get? Or you can look for inspiration from your favourite Dr Seuss story, whether it’s Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish or How the Grinch Stole Christmas! So do get rhyming!

Due: Tuesday 2nd June (After Queen’s Birthday Weekend)

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Each Friday our team will be having a sports rotation - 10.00 - 11.00am. The sports are: handball, soccer, rippa, tapuwae and dance. Please ensure your child / children come suitably prepared with appropriate clothing.
Music:
Each Wednesday afternoon, beginning this week, we’ll be having a team Music rotation which will include: GarageBand, Styles of Music, Orchestra, Ukulele and Singing. Feel free to join us if you have expertise in any of these areas.
Maths:
Basic Facts are an integral part of our Maths programme and we have a regular testing time for these. Please continue learning these times tables in this order:
2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x
Maths Websites
Studyladder:
Your child has a password that enables them to work on activities in Studyladder.
Reading:
Everyone should have a Library book that they can read at home for at least 20 minutes each night. Monday and Tuesday are our Library days here at school. We would like each child to have a book to read at home and one they can keep in their tray at school for “Reading” time.
Have a great week.
Class Blogs:
2015kowhai.blogspot.co.nz
These are up and running!! We’d love your comments and feedback on what we’re up to.
At this stage, the class blogs are not linked to the Wainui Website.

Nits
These little critters are about again!!! Please check your child’s hair frequently for signs of unwanted activity.

Kind regards,

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We are really focussing on descriptive writing this week and on Thursday we'll be administering a writing sample which will be moderated across classes and teachers. This is to ensure we're marking our writing with more consistency across the school.
Today's writing was based around a picture of a pukeko.
Ask your child to explain what they focussed on with their brainstorm - before they started writing.

Museum Trip

Just an advance note: we're planning a visit to the Auckland Museum on Tuesday 23rd June where the topic of interest will be: "Entomology: Examining the living world". More details will follow shortly.

Welcome to our first post as Nikau Class.
This is where we will share the work we're doing in class and inform you all of events and curriculum activities that are coming up.
We read a great story today - ' Te Namu - the Nuisance Fly'. Ask your child to tell you about the Life Cycle of a sandfly.
